Douglas R. Shaab, 85 of Lancaster, PA passed away on November 12, 2024 at Penn medicine Lancaster General Health He was the husband of Mary Lou (Murray) Shaab to whom he had been married for 65 years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Albert and Helen (Murray) Shaab.
He was a 1956 graduate of J. P. McCaskey High School.
Doug was a longtime member of St. Luke's U.C.C. of Lancaster, and more recently Trinity U.C.C. in East Petersburg.
He worked for over 35 years at Eby’s Pharmacy (prior to it becoming Smithgall’s Pharmacy) in Lancaster, where he had many roles including; stocking shelves, delivering medications to homes, and working the soda fountain. He then served as head custodian for the middle school of Conestoga Valley School District, finally retiring in 2001.
He enjoyed sports of all kinds, but none as much as watching his own sons playing. He coached his sons’ baseball teams at different age groups up to American Legion. He and Mary Lou traveled the East Coast to watch their son, Doug, Jr. play baseball in college and the Minor Leagues. He was an avid card player, particularly enjoying Pinochle and Poker.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons: Douglas Shaab, Jr, of Savannah, GA and Kevin Shaab (husband of Tammi) of Lancaster; 3 grandchildren: Jessica, Kahla and Vanessa Frazier; 6 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Celeste, wife of the late Gerald Stetter. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Shaab.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service at Trinity UCC, 2340 State St., East Petersburg, PA 17520 on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and the convenience of the family.
