Edgar Duffield Brereton, Jr., of Lancaster, PA died Monday, March 28th, at Hospice of Lancaster County- Good Drive. Born in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late Edgar D., Sr. and Ethel Watkins Brereton. He was a 1941 graduate of McCaskey H.S. and a member of the 1945 Class of Franklin & Marshall College. In 1942, Ed entered the U.S. Army in the 8th Air Force, serving in England and Africa. Following his military discharge, he graduated from the Lancaster Business College, where he then became an instructor for six years.
Ed retired from Educators Mutual Life Insurance Co., and then was a part-time driver at the Manheim Auto Auction for many years. He was a trumpeter and avid musician. A woodworker most of his life, he participated in craft shows under the trade name of Watbre, specializing in wood and tile.
He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Lancaster. Ed was a past master and sixty-year member of Lamberton Lodge #476 F. & A.M. He enjoyed spending time at his camper in Perryville, MD. His very dearest companion for many years was Doris L. Bowman, and he will be missed by his “adopted family,” Horace and Brenda Davidson; Douglas and Dawn Davidson and their children, Seth, Erin, Gavin, Brynne; Brian and Jennifer Davidson and their children, Tristan, Nolan, Logan and Piper.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service from Faith United Church of Christ, 1204 Wabank Rd., Lancaster PA on Friday, April 1st, at 2:00 P.M. The family will greet friends at the church on Friday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Please omit flowers.
