Edward C Pelger, Jr. died, as he lived, with charm on November 30, 2016. When Ed was a child in the Depression , his mother gave meals to the hobos that wandered in and out of Lititz. She sometimes didn’t eat so the hobos could. This compassion for the downtrodden stayed with Ed for life.
At 17, after graduating from Lititz High School, Ed enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific from 1944 to 1945 . He hated the glorification of war, yet made some of his best friends (and memories) in those years. After returning home in 1946, he and his father (with little experience) started Edward Pelger & Son Electrical Contractors. They blew plenty of fuses till they figured it out. He wired many of the houses and factories in Lititz, building relationships and making people laugh.
His wife of 63 years, Christine Sharpe Pelger, died in 2014. Ed will be missed by his many friends, relatives and immediate survivors: Cindy, wife of Terry Sullivan living in Waynesboro, PA; Patty Owens, living in Lititz, PA; Debby, wife of Bruce DeBord, living in Lititz, PA; Ned, husband of Debby living in Lititz, PA and Jim, husband of Erin, living in Missoula, MT. The 13 grandchildren include: Mick Owens, T. Sullivan, Emily DeBord, Alaina Ingels, Lex Pelger, Abby Sullivan, Anna Pelger-DiCicco, Tessa Pelger, Harrison DeBord, Samantha Pelger, Jack Pelger, Dutch Pelger and Elsa Pelger. The 8 great-grandchildren include: Cole Owens, Tyson Owens, Clay DiCicco, Parker Owens, Corrina Ingels, Levin DiCicco, Josie Ingels and Meadow DiCicco. Ed is also survived by his brother Gerald Pelger and sister Mary Fry.
Ed requested a short obituary with no photo and no bragging. He didn’t want a funeral service, but was okay with a party. We’ll have a Celebration of Life drop-in party December 18, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Ned and Debby’s barn. Please come to share and hear your favorite Ed Pelger stories.
Donations in his memory may be given to the Lititz United Methodist Church, 201 Market St, Lititz, PA 17543.
