Edward Niemann, Jr., 86, of Willow Valley Lakes Manor, Willow Street, PA, died Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Arbor View, Willow Valley.
He was the husband of Barbara Niemann.
He was born June 17, 1927, in New York City to Edward and Mary M. L. Niemann.
Ed was a graduate of Wicomico High School in Salisbury, MD, and the University of Virginia (BS and MS in Electrical Engineering). After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946, Ed remained in the Naval Reserve until 1959. Ed was a communication systems engineer at General Electric for 36 years, retiring from the Space Division, Valley Forge, in 1987. Upon retirement he and Barbara acquired a consuming interest in genealogy, traveling to the UK, Germany, and Switzerland; in their spare time they enrolled in more than 60 Elderhostels.
He resided in the King of Prussia area for 42 years before moving to Willow Valley.
In addition to his beloved wife Barbara, with whom he would have celebrated 64 years of marriage in September, he is survived by children Edward (Suzy), Nancy (Ronnie Riha), Janet (Glen Tryson), and Donald (Anna Marie); three grandsons, Gregory (Stefanie) and Robert Tryson and Andrew Niemann; step-granddaughter Molly (Todd) and their son Alex; and many wonderful nieces and nephews and their children. Oldest of three, he is survived by his sister Elisabeth, and was predeceased by his brother Robert.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 31, in the Thomas Auditorium at Willow Valley Lakes Manor, 300 Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Willow Street, PA 17584. Interment will be private. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, with a service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Willow Valley Team Member Education Fund (attn. Laura Weaver, 300 Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Willow Street, PA 17584), the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
