Edwin J. Barber, 95, of Willow Valley Lakes Manor, Willow St., PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE died Friday, March 19, 2010.
Born on a farm near Onarga, IL, he graduated from the University of Illinois in 1940 and earned a Master’s Degree from Virginia Tech in 1941.
He was a supervisor in government ammunition manufacture during World War II and later a research scientist with Hercules Incorporated in the development and uses of water soluble polymers, spanning a career of 35 years. He was a member of the American Chemical Society and the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry.
Mr. Barber enjoyed music, studying the development of agricultural soils and plant growth, exploration and keeping up with national and world affairs. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he took an active part in mission outreach.
He was the son of the late Edwin J., Sr. and Helen Gibbs Barber.
He was married 68 years to Ora Rutledge Barber, a native of Blacksburg, VA.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Mary Ellen Robinson of Thorndale, two grandchildren, John M. Robinson and Jennifer L. Hartley, and two great-grandchildren, John and Jenna.
