Age 59, of Santa Monica, California, died Saturday, September 7, 2019. He was the son of the late Arvid and Marian Herr Ek. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. Ek attended Shady Side Academy and graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1983. He moved to Santa Monica and began his career in the investment industry with Wilshire Associates. In 1994 he moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts and worked for Rhumbline Associates, where he eventually was named Chief Investment Officer. Recruited by former colleagues from Wilshire Associates, Mr. Ek decided to move back to Santa Monica in 2007 and work for Los Angeles Capital Management. He retired in 2013 and pursued his passion of rebuilding a 1962 Porsche Roadster. Reading, tennis, Porsche events and travels with his son filled his free time. Mr. Ek is survived by his son Lauriston Benjamin Herr, husband of Berit Ek of Golden, Colorado; his sister, Mary Ann Ek, wife of Joel Wittenberg of Carlisle, Massachusetts; his brother Erik, husband of Sue Ek of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; two nieces, Ruthie Wittenberg and Rachel Wittenberg; and one nephew, Joseph Ek. A graveside service was held at Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery, Willow Street, PA on Saturday, September 21st with the Rev. Dr. Randolph T. Riggs officiating.
