On October 3, 2014, Eileen Agnes Shannon of the Mennonite Home in Lancaster, PA, passed from this life after a long illness and with hope in the life to come. She was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Charles Harold Shannon, Sr., of Lewisburg, PA. Eileen was born in Laurelton, PA in 1937.
Miss Shannon graduated from Cornwall High School, Cornwall, PA, in 1954, and received a BS in Elementary Education from the Millersville State Teachers College in January 1958. She received a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962. Miss Shannon took additional graduate studies from the University of Colorado, and the Penn State University. She taught third grade and kindergarten classes at Lafayette Elementary School on St. Joseph’s Street in Lancaster, PA for almost 40 years.
She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Duke Street in Lancaster, PA and did volunteer work for her church, Woodcrest Villa and the Mennonite Central Committee. She kept in contact with other retirees of the Lancaster City School. She traveled extensively and recently visited Ireland and Australia.
Surviving Eileen are brothers, Charles Harold Shannon, Jr. of Cogan Station, PA and John Wesley Shannon of Camp Hill, PA, a nephew and two nieces and many cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother William Thompson Shannon.
A funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 31 S. Duke St., Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be next to her parents in the Lewisburg, PA Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to her church, the Millersville State University Education Scholarship fund or the Mennonite Home.
