Elinor Mae Forrest, 86, of Lancaster, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 10, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Richard “Dick” E. Forrest to whom she was married to for 63 years.
Born in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lester M and Verdna M (Hostetter) Good.
After graduating from J.P. McCaskey in 1955, she worked for Armstrong World Industries and was an Avon Representative for 20 years earning the honor of being advanced to the President’s Club.
She was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church where she engaged in the Choir, Steven Ministries, Bible Studies, Piano Accompanist and Inmate Aftercare programs, (Hope House) before she became a member of Hempfield United Methodist Church.
Elinor had a servant’s heart which led her to dedicate much of her adult life to the Prison Ministry. She was heavily involved with leading the inmate Bible studies, music programs and inmate visitation within the Lancaster County Prison.
In her spare time, Elinor enjoyed reading, bird watching, gardening, playing cards/board games, beach and mountain vacations, spoiling Chole the kitty cat, and most importantly spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Michele Shaffer, Denise Way (husband Mike); seven grandchildren: Alexis Ryan, Logan Ryan, Brooke Ryan, Michael Way Jr (wife Mariah) Alexis Way, Nathan Shaffer and Daniel Shaffer; and two great-grandchildren, Collins and Cooper Way.
The family would like to thank all special caregivers and Hospice for taking such great care of Elinor.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Hempfield United Methodist Church, 3050 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery.
