Elizabeth “Betty” J. Berninger

Elizabeth “Betty” J. Berninger, 90, a resident of the Mennonite Home, died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the home.

She was the wife of the late Raymond J. Berninger who died in 1988. Born in West Allis, Wisconsin she was the daughter of the late Theophilus W. and Mary Catherine Faye Thompson.

Betty had worked for the Department of Worker’s Compensation for the State of Pennsylvania for 20 years. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic church in Lancaster, and had been a member of the Mother’s Club at the church. Betty enjoyed gardening, animals, needlework and cooking. She had been a caregiver to her husband, mother in law and sister for many years.

Betty always had a smile and a compliment for everyone knowing that it could make a difference in their day.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of the Mennonite Home for the excellent care that they provided to Betty over the last years of her life.

Surviving is a son, Robert J. husband of Jinuy Berninger of York; a daughter, Mary C. wife of David Wirth of Lancaster; two granddaughters, Nicole wife of Larry Peace and Adrienne Wirth; and two great grandsons, Elliott and Lucas Peace. She was preceded in death by 8 siblings.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, at 10:00 A.M. at the Chapel at the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA. Friends may call at the home on Wednesday, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 3544 N. Progress Avenue, Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602
