Elizabeth P. Siemer

Elizabeth “Betsy” Prosch Siemer, 93, of the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 16, 2015 at  the Mennonite Home. Born in Clifton, NJ, the daughter of the late Ernest L. and Hattie Decker Prosch, Betsy lived there until 1984, at which time she and her husband, William D. Siemer, Jr. retired to New Holland, PA. In 1993 they moved to Woodcrest Villa in Lancaster. After 42 years of marriage, Mr. Siemer died in 1995.

Betsy graduated from Clifton High School in 1938 and from The Berkeley School of Secretarial Training, East Orange, NJ the following year. She enjoyed a 45 year career in Business, the last 24 of which were spent at The Berkeley School (now Berkeley College). In 1984, she retired from the Little Falls, NJ campus as Vice President, Administration.

Music was always an important and happy part of Betsy’s life. For many years she served as organist and choir director at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, and at various other New Jersey churches. Betsy was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in New Holland, where she had served on the Music Committee and the Health and Welfare Commission.

Her sister’s children were always a significant part of her life, and she is survived by two nephews and a niece; Richard Eliezer (Joy) Lake Pleasant, NY; Robert Eliezer (Beth McCarthy, fiancee) Burlington, MA; and Margaret Ann Ramundo, Cincinnati, OH. Her life was also richly blessed by her “adopted” family, Jay and Susen Leary, New Holland, and their children, David Leary (Kajal), Skopje, Macedonia and Alison Leary Miller (Richard), Rockville, MD. In addition, her “adopted” granddaughter, Erin McCarthy VanDeWalle (Jason), Tallahassee, FL brought much love and joy into Betsy’s life.

She was also “adopted” and loved as an aunt by Carol McCarthy (Brian), Gainesville, FL, Diane Eliezer, Raleigh, NC, Robert Ramundo, Cincinnati, OH and Lauren Petrakis (George), Cocoa Beach, FL. Surviving are also grandnephews and grandnieces and several great grandnephews and grandnieces, and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Betsy was also predeceased by her sister, Margaret Eliezer and a nephew, Roger Eliezer.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service in the Chapel at the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, March 14 at 2PM with the Chaplain Miriam R. Cruz officiating. Interment will be in the Branchville, NJ Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A time of fellowship will follow the memorial service.
