Ella Ament

Ella Ament, 85, of 185 Chestnut Street, Landisville, died Tuesday, April 29, at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim.

She was born February 1, 1929 in Manor Township, the daughter of Phares B. Gerlach and Emma Peters Gerlach.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 56 years, J. Vernon Ament, on November 9, 2007.

She worked mainly in food services, variously at Hamilton Watch, Musser’s Potato Chips, McDonald’s Wheatland Avenue location, and Mountville Elementary School.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Rohrerstown, having volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and a Salem Server, and the West Hempfield Fire Co Auxiliary.  She loved her family, cooking, baking, and being out-of-doors, and she had a kind word and a helpful hand for everyone.

She will be lovingly missed by her children and their spouses, Kay and David Brubaker, Landisville; Carol and Don Simmons, Landisville; and Kirk and Debra Ament, Lancaster; as well as her grandchildren, their spouses, and her great-grandchildren, Scott Simmons, Landisville; Graig, Carolyn and Oliver Brubaker, Silver Spring, MD; Kelly, Fred, Mila and Halle Kilheffer, Anchorage, AK; Justin and Joanna Simmons, Mountville; Katelyn and Justin Smith, Willow Grove; and Alyssa and Ryan Brubaker, Lancaster.  She was preceded in death by her brothers Harry, Benjamin, Frank, Phares (Bud), and Raymond Gerlach, as well as her sister Mary Spangler.

Her family sincerely appreciates the loving care provided in her final years at Country Meadows of Lancaster, Lancaster Regional Hospital, and Pleasant View Retirement Community.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Life Celebration service on Saturday, May 3, at 10:00 a.m. at Chestnut Hill Mennonite Church, 4050 Marietta Ave., Columbia, with Rev. Laverne DiNino officiating.  The family will receive guests one hour prior.  Burial in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery will follow.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to West Hempfield Fire & Rescue, P O Box 1, Silver Spring, PA  17575 or Salem United Church of Christ, 2312 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603.
