Ethel B. Hall

Ethel Jean Bitzer Hall passed away on June 4, 2016 at Landis Homes.

Ethel was born in Lancaster, the daughter of John Guy and Laura Kauffman Bitzer on March 2, 1918.  She spoke happily of her years growing up on Lemon Street.  She graduated from Stevens (Girls) High School as a class officer and member of the National Honor Society. While raising her family, she worked for Bell Telephone Company, Dr. Atlee, Lancaster General Hospital, and retired from RCA in 1980.

She married Charles R. Hall, Sr. in 1939 and together they enjoyed raising their children, traveling, playing golf, gardening, birding and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren for 70 years.  In addition, Ethel enjoyed reading, stitching, and the women’s league at Overlook Golf Course where she co-hosted member –guest outings.  As a member of Willow Street United Church of Christ for 52 years, she was active on the consistory, in Sunday School, and Bible studies.  She joined the Jerusalem Church in Manheimafter moving from her home in Willow Street to the Long Community at Highland in Lancaster where she lived independently until her 99

year.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; their infant daughter Judith; her brothers, John of Baltimore and Robert of Lancaster; and sisters, Edith Musselman of Lancaster, Anna Musser of Lititz and Dorothy Ruoss of Ephrata.

Ethel is survived by her three children:  Carolyn M, wife of Fred Garner, of Lititz; Charles R. Hall, Jr., husband of Mary S. Hall, of Lancaster; and Douglas C. Hall, husband of Kathy L. Hall, of Lititz. Her six grandchildren are Judith M. Risser, wife of Terry Risser, of Lancaster; Steven F. Garner, husband of Marci Miller, of Lancaster; Ethan C. Hall of Brookeville, MD; Matthew S. Hall of Jeffersonville, VT; Owen D. Hall of Richmond, VT; and Sara K. Giorgis, wife of John D. Giorgis, of Silver Springs, MD.  She was very proud of her nine great-grandchildren:  Megan and Luke Risser, Logan and Jonathan Hall, Wesley and Violet Garner; and John Paul, Madeline, and Thaddeus Joseph (TJ) Giorgis.

Family will greet friends at Jerusalem Church, 1620 Newport Road, Manheim, PA on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 9:30 AM.  The service will follow at 10:15 AM.  Interment will follow the service at the Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery in Strasburg, PA.
