Ethel Elizabeth Dupree, known to family and friends as Bettie, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late William E. Dupree, Jr. who died in 2001. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Ormond L. Sr. and Emma F. Hampton. Bettie was a 1942 graduate of Elizabethtown College where she received a degree as a Medical Technician. She worked at Lancaster General Hospital and the Atlee Clinic. She was a past member of the
LGH Auxiliary, serving as president of the Millersville Auxiliary for 12 years, a member of Encounter for 10 years, and a member of Contact of Lancaster for 29 years. She also volunteered with a local Girl Scout day camp in the Lancaster area. Along with her husband, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels for several years. Bettie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, where she was a Deacon and a Circle Leader. She also donated the first car to what would become the Wheels to Work program. Surviving are: daughter, Betsy, wife of Cameron Ellis; daughter, Martha, wife of Paul Milot; son, Bill Dupree; 3 grandchildren, Emma, Laura, and Luke Ellis. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Hawkins, and a brother, Rev. Ormond L. Hampton, Jr. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St. Lancaster, on Saturday, January 8, 2010 at 11 AM with lunch following. The family will visit with friends before the service. A private interment will be attended by the family.
