Eugene “Gene” Ronald Deering, 89, of Ronks, PA, died peacefully at home on September 27, 2024. Gene was born in Montclair, NJ, to Robert and Helen Deering, Gene was the eldest of six children. He lived in Midland Park, NJ, retiring to Ronks 25 years ago.

Gene was a Navy veteran having served at Quonset Point, RI Naval Base from 1955-1957. Prior to working at Pepsi Cola for 38 years, Gene was employed at Curtiss-Wright in Caldwell, NJ, where he met a beautiful young accountant, Marion Virginia Rader. They were married in Midland Park, NJ, where they raised their four children.

He had a lifelong passion for aircraft, having flown in hot air balloons, stunt planes, and all other types of aircraft imaginable. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast, having owned and ridden motorcycles from the age 16 well into his late 70’s. During his retirement he pursued many hobbies, including woodworking, target shooting, winemaking and home brewery to name a few. He also enjoyed cooking, attending concerts, playing cards, and frequented several favorite area restaurants with Nancy.

Gene is survived by his son, Kevin Deering of Allendale, NJ; daughters Kathleen Deering of Ringwood, NJ, and Carolyn Deering of Allentown, NJ; daughter-in-law Lucy Deering of Hackettstown, NJ; grandchildren Michelle Deering, Michael Deering, Melanie Deering, Marion Katelyn Deering, Kyle Deering, Kurt Deering, Ryan Sedlak, Brendan Sedlak, Stephanie Sedlak, Julie Scesney, Tara Scesney, Alex Scesney and six great-grandchildren.

Gene is also survived by his loving siblings, Jane Deering of Danville, CA, Ann (Michael) Karr of New Providence, NJ, Patty (Barry) Seip of New Providence, NJ, Micky (Carl) Ehnis of Long Branch, NJ; and sister-in-law Janet Deering of Somerset, NJ.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marion Deering in 1977 and, and his second wife, Nancy Deering in 2023; son Michael Deering in 2022; and brother Gerald Deering in 2017.

During his and Nancy’s retirement years in PA, they were blessed with remarkably special, loving and caring neighbors whom they adored and cherished. The family is deeply thankful for those relationships and the care and love they gave to both Gene and Nancy.

Gene’s children are honoring their father's wishes to be buried alongside their mother in a private ceremony.
