Eugene G. Smith, 81, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Homestead Village. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late I. Eugene and Helen (Glass) Smith.
He received his undergraduate education at Franklin and Marshall College and attended seminary at Harvard University. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict, worked for the state of Pennsylvania, and as a proof-reader for many of the largest publishing houses. Throughout his career, Father Smith ministered to the people around him as a worker priest of the Episcopal Church. He dedicated his life to studying scripture and teaching and ministering to those around him.
Eugene was a leader and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Lancaster.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 301 St Thomas Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601 with Father Jonathan Currier officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in Lancaster Cemetery shall follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Smith’s memory may be made to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, 8360 Old York Rd, Elkins Park, PA. Eugene’s uncle, Dr. Hubert H. Rosser, was a founder of this institution.
