Eva E. (Rutter) York

Eva E. (Rutter) York, 102, of Luther Acres, Lititz, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2010. Born in Dushore, PA., on January 10, 1908, Eva was the daughter of Emanuel A. and Delilah (Roland) Erle. Her first husband, Raymond G. Rutter, Jr. died in 1974 after 49 years of marriage. In 1977, she married Allan W. York, Sr. who died in 1995. Eva, in addition to being a wife and mother, worked at various times as a telephone operator, a jewel inspector during WWII at Hamilton Watch, as manager of the Lancaster Ormond shop, as assistant manager and finally manager of Franklin and Marshall College’s book shop. She was a life long member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, Lancaster. She is survived by a son George E., husband of Barbara W. Rutter, of Lancaster, and a daughter, Nancy L., wife of Allan W. York, Jr., of Mount Pleasant, SC. In addition, she is survived by three grandchildren: Gregory Rutter, Lancaster; Jennifer Cumberland, Winchester, VA; and Christopher York, Cedar Rapids, IA. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. One grandson, Geoffrey Rutter predeceased her. Eva was the last one living of four brothers and five sisters: Ernest, Merlin, Arthur, Leonard, Winifred, Annabel, Florence, Gertrude and Eva’s twin, Iva. A memorial service will be announced later and held after the first of the year at TrinityLutheran Church. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, 31 South Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 or LutherCare, 600 East Main Street, Lititz, PA 17543.
