Evelyn M. Packard, 78, of Lancaster, PA was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 11, 2012, at the Hospice of Lancaster County (Good Drive).
Born in Hackensack, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Fred & Ernestine Hipp and was reared in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. She was the wife of Dr. Barry Packard whom she met in Kijabe, Kenya in 1965. They were married in 1968 in the Bible Baptist Church in Hasbrouck Heights.
She was a math teacher with degrees in mathematics from Wheaton College (BA) & Montclair State College (MA). She taught 13 years in the Oradel-Riveredge school system in Oradel, NJ. She also taught math at Lancaster Christian School, the Christian School of York, Nebraska Christian School and the Africa Inland Mission’s Kijabe Teacher Training College in Kenya.
Her passion was to teach the Bible to children in church & in Child Evangelism Fellowship clubs. Moreover, she was very involved in Pioneer Girls in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ and directed the Bible Baptist church choir. She organized & trained Kenyan students to teach Sunday School to Kipsigis children while at Litein Secondary School. Additionally, she loved teaching Bible to Juniors and Seniors following the curriculum of the Kenya Ministry of Education.
In addition to her husband, Barry, she is survived by two sons, Daniel of Las Vegas, NV and David of East Petersburg, PA, and his wife Whitney, two grandchildren, Jude and Micah, and a brother, Richard Hipp, of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service from Westminster Presbyterian Church 2151 Oregon Pike Lancaster, PA on Friday, February 17th at 11:00 AM. The family will greet friends from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
