Florence E. Dando
Florence E. Dando of Lancaster, PA, formerly of Glenside, PA and Avalon, NJ, died July 29, 2011 at The Glen at Willow Valley.
Born February 10, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA she was the daughter of the late Samuel Wylie Brown, Jr. and Florence (White) Brown. She was married to the late Charles A. Dando. She was predeceased by her brother Samuel Wylie Brown III.
Betty graduated from Girls High School of Philadelphia and Ursinus College. She spent most of her career teaching Health and Physical Education and retired as chair of the Men’s and Women’s Phys Ed Department at Cheltenham High School where she also coached the swim team. She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Wyncote, PA where she served as a deacon and as an elder. In more recent years, Betty served on the Board of Directors of Ursinus College.
She is survived by her children Anne Oldfield (Robert), Barbara (William Grubb), Susan Weed (Michael), and William (Kay). In addition to her children, Betty is survived by grandchildren Rob Oldfield, Allison Oldfield, Greg Oldfield (Anna), Jennifer Snavely Garza (Ruben), Jessica Snavely, Samantha Weed Neuman (Brian), Kymberli Weed, Patti Weed and Andi Weed and great grandchildren Kaya and Haley Oldfield.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff of The Glen at Willow Valley, especially those on the Fifth Floor, to Central Penn Nursing and to Hospice of Lancaster County.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be sent to Ursinus College, Attn: Development Office, PO Box 1000, Collegeville, PA 19426
