Fred S. Engle, Jr.

Fred S. Engle, Jr, 82, of Lancaster, passed away on March 16, 2024 at Brethren Village Retirement Community.  He was the loving husband to his first wife, the late Louise W. Engle, who preceded him in death in 2004 as well as to his current wife, Susan E. Savage.

Born in Lancaster, PA Fred was the son of the late Fred S. and Edith (Krentz) Engle.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University, Fred spent much of his career as a General Manager in the building materials industry, President/Owner of a flooring company, and Owner of a consulting firm.  He last worked as a manager for a credit union assisting micro business owners with lending, training, and guidance on how to operate a business.

In his spare time, he enjoyed acting as a business consultant for SCORE, refereeing high school and college basketball games, and spending time with his adoring grandchildren.   Fred retired in 2015 from the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association after 52 years as an official.   He also volunteered with the Manheim Township Baseball Association.  He was very active as a member of Highland Presbyterian Church where he had been an Elder, Deacon, and Trustee.  Fred was also a member of the Lancaster and York Chambers of Commerce where he participated on several committees.  He is a former board member and committee member of multiple organizations in addition to being a longtime member of the Hamilton Club.  Fred also thoroughly enjoyed attending Penn State football games and the activities of each of his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by two children; Kim Engle Kissel (wife of Bruce) and Scott Engle.  They shared 12 grandchildren between them.  Also surviving is his sister, Francie Krajewski.   

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM.  An informal visitation will occur following the service.  Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the church memorial gardens.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fred’s memory may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund at the address listed above.
