Fred W. Peterson, of Lancaster, Pa., passed away peacefully at his home on March 28, 2013. He was 88.
Born September 16, 1924, Fred was the son of the late Henry and Mamie Peterson and grew up with three brothers and two sisters in Tucson, Arizona.
A WWII veteran, Fred served in the Army Signal Corps in France. He earned his degree in Electrical Engineering in 1949 from the University of Arizona and was immediately recruited by RCA, where he was employed for more than 40 years. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Physics from Franklin & Marshall College in 1972. Fred was an inventor for numerous patents and received the prestigious David Sarnoff Award during his career at RCA.
Fred was an active and helpful member of Grace Lutheran Church for more than 60 years. He was an avid cyclist and accomplished a 200-mile ride in the Blue Ridge Mountains. He loved to play cards with friends and family and took special pride in his strawberry cake and in cooking breakfasts for his family.
He is predeceased by his wife, Nancy Peterson; his sister, Ruth Panthen; and his brothers Henry, Charles, and Benjamin Peterson. He is survived by his sister, Ann Wilkinson, and her husband Charles; his four children from a previous marriage to Joyce Tearney: Fred Jr. (Carol), Bradley (Tina), Christopher (Jo Ann) and Susan Peterson Watson (David); and three grandchildren: Douglas Peterson, Mia Peterson and Tony Peterson.
In addition, Fred is survived by his five stepchildren: William R. Frank, Jr. (Christina), Bradley Frank (Elizabeth), Barry Frank (Morie), Lori Frank Suter III (Albert), and Leslie Frank Hartenstine (Robert), nine step-grandchildren and five great step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held April 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 517. N. Queen Street, Lancaster, Pa. Family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. There will be a private interment at Conestoga Memorial Park.
