George E. Edwards, 84, of Lancaster passed away at Brethren Village on Thursday, October 10, 2013. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Ervin and Mary Edwards. George was the loving husband of Mary Crockett Edwards for 59 years. He lived in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia until 2007.
George was an electrical engineer for the School District of Philadelphia for 35 years. He attended Temple University and Penn State University, receiving a degree in engineering from Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force. George was a Sunday School teacher and trustee of the Green Lane United Methodist Church. He served on the board of directors of the Roxborough Home for Women. A Master Mason, George was a 25 year member of Palestine-Roxborough Lodge #135 F. & A.M., the Kensington Kadosh Commandery No. 54, the Philadelphia Council No. 11, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Benjamin Franklin Consistory and the Lu Lu Temple. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lancaster.
George’s gifts of leadership by example, knowledge and faith were an inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Nancy Rutherford, wife of Robert Rutherford of Lititz, and Karen Goldsborough, wife of Andrew Goldsborough of West Chester; three grandchildren, Matthew Rutherford of Lititz, Sarah Goldsborough & Rachel Goldsborough of West Chester. Also surviving are a sister, Jane Kushina of Runnemede, New Jersey, and a brother, Newell Edwards of Magnolia, New Jersey.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend George’s funeral service at the Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 3:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be held at Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, PA, on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
