Virginia “Ginger” Mattey, age 64, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, November 18, 2016 at her home in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
She is survived by her loving family: husband, Joseph Mattey; daughter Kristin DeCosta and her husband Robert; son Andrew Mattey and his wife Victoria; grandson Brandon, granddaughters Samantha and Adrianna; sister Sue Kadera , brother Rick Vecchio, and stepfather Richard Vecchio. She was predeceased by her mother, Gail Watts Vecchio, father Joseph R. Ruzsinzki, and brother Joseph Ruzsinzki. Ginger is also survived by numerous other relatives and special friends who she cherished as family.
She and Joe recently celebrated their fifty years together as a couple, including the last forty-seven years as husband and wife. They have made their home in Lancaster since 1987.
A native of Trenton, NJ, Ginger attended Trenton Central High, Mercer County Community College and Trenton State College. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Ginger worked for many years as an accountant in the Trenton area, as well as in Bucks and Lancaster Counties. She was an avid reader with a particular interest in twentieth century history and politics, and enjoyed sewing and was a fine cook.
Ginger was a unique personality. She was a loving caregiver to family and friends and was always there for those in need. She was loving, smart and funny. She was also very direct, perhaps sometimes too much so. She was seldom shy about letting people know what was on her mind.
She may be gone from sight, but her spirit will remain with all who knew and loved her.
Friends and family are invited to call at the Hartmann Memorial Home, 2830 Nottingham Way Mercerville, NJ on Friday, November 25th between the hours of 12 noon to 1:30 PM. Calling hours will to be followed by a short service on site, then burial at Riverview Cemetery.
