Gordon D. Barr

Gordon D. Barr, born in Lancaster County July 17, 1924, son of the late C. Roy Barr and Susanna Dennison, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the age of 88.

Mr. Barr owned and operated C. Roy Barr & Son Electrical Contractors and Appliance Dealers in excess of 50 years.

Upon graduation from J.P. McCaskey High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy following one year’s completion at Franklin and Marshall College. While serving on the USS Bogue he had the responsibility of the ship’s electrical system at the rank of First Class, and was in charge of the vessel’s chronometer. His tour of duty included both Pacific and Atlantic Theaters.

Mr. Barr was a faithful, devoted member of Hamilton Park United Church of Christ where he served on numerous committees. Organizational memberships included Kappa Sigma Fraternity, a 65 year member of Lodge # 43 F & AM, and a member of Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of Quarryville.

His passion for cruising on the Chesapeake Bay with family and friends was one of his favorite pastimes.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Harriet with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary August 7. Additionally he is survived by two children, Michael R. Barr and his wife Deborah of Richmond Hill, GA and Patty, wife of Scott Krimmel of Lancaster; 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and his only brother, Stanley R. Barr and his wife of Dorothy Jean.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hamilton Park UCC, 1210 Maple Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603
