March 18, 1929 – May 12, 2023
Grace Buckwalter Cox, 94, went to be with her Lord, with her family by her side, at
Landis Home Community, May 12, 2023. Grace was born in Trooper, PA on March 18, 1929. She
was the daughter of the late Harry and Orpha Buckwalter and the loving wife of the late
Stanford F. Cox for 60 years.
Grace graduated first in her class at Collegeville-Trappe High School and earned her way
through West Chester State Teachers College by waitressing at Hadden Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.
In 1951, Grace graduated with a degree in Health & Physical Education and then worked at
Wickersham Elementary School in the Lancaster City School District. When her four children
were busy in school, she worked at the Lancaster Church of the Brethren for sixteen years as
an Administrative Assistant and later was in charge of the Baby Room for three and a half years
at The Brethren Village Day Care Center.
Grace’s life revolved around service to the community and her church. A member of the
Lancaster Church of the Brethren, Grace taught children’s Sunday school, was a Deacon, served
on the Church Board and was the Funeral Coordinator there. Grace volunteered for the
Hempfield Meals on Wheels, the Lancaster-Lebanon Literacy Council, a member of the Musical
Art Society and Secretary of Church Women United of Lancaster County.
Grace enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. She loved her family and was an amazing
wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Grace is survived by daughters, Lucinda
and her husband Randy Subers of Houston, TX and Audrey and her late husband Kent Shisler of
Hanover, PA, and two sons, Timothy Cox and spouse Keith Pope of Vancouver, Canada and
Steven Cox with wife Beverly (Ressler) of Mountville, PA. Grace is survived by six grandchildren,
Sarah (Shisler) Schwarz with husband Alston, Leah (Shisler) Stone with husband Jonathon. Tyler
Cox and wife Tara (Rogers), Rachel Cox, Ashley Cox, Melissa (Cox) Sauder and husband Alex. She
is survived by two year old great grand daughter Willow Grace Schwarz.
At her request, Grace’s body has been donated for medical research to the Humanity
Gift Registry of the State of Pennsylvania. Memorial contributions in Grace’s memory may be
