H. Karl Zeswitz

H. Karl Zeswitz, 84, of Lancaster, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Luther Acres.

He was married 61 years to Lura Pullis Zeswitz.  Born in Reading,   he was the son of the late William H. Sr., and Emma Kleschitz Zeswitz.

Karl retired from CoreStates Bank following a lengthy career in Banking.  Prior to that he had worked at the family business, Zeswitz Music Center, and for Carpenter Steel both in Reading, PA.  He was a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he had been involved as a member of church council and as treasurer.  He was a longtime member of the Manheim Township Lions Club and had received the Melvin Jones Award.  He had served on the board of directors for Lutheran Social Services and for the Boys Club of Lancaster.  Karl was also the former president of the Exchange Club.

Karl enjoyed volunteering in the community, spending time in Cape May, NJ, boating, and camping, but most of all he spent time with his family.

Karl had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving besides his wife are five sons, H. Karl Zeswitz, Jr., Esq. of Gaithersburg, MD, Major Steven R., USMC (Ret) husband of Lori McCracken Zeswitz of Chesapeake, VA, John W. husband of Christina Heinlein Zeswitz of Lititz, Mark H. husband of Jane Warfel Zeswitz of Lancaster, and Andrew R. husband of Linda Basilotta Zeswitz of Chantilly, VA.  Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.  He was preceded in death by a brother William Zeswitz, Jr. and by a sister Gertrude Granger.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Craig A. Ross officiating.  Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Building Fund of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, PA  17601 to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA  17604-4125 or to a charity of one’s choice.
