Helen A. Sagerer

Dead

Yep, that’s what she wanted written in the paper. Helen, also known as Mom, Gramma, Mommom and in her later years, our personal favorite “Jezebel”, wanted her friends, caregivers and family to smile one more time!  Helen died February 11, 2014.

She was born and grew up in Lancaster, PA to the late Edward and Clara Todd. Preceding her in death a brother, Edward “Buzz” Todd, husband to the late Freda Herzon, New Providence, PA; a sister Shirley T. Favinger, wife of Thomas Favinger, Kirkwood, PA. Surviving are sisters, Betty J. McClune, wife of the late Frank McClune, West Chester, PA and Nancy Y. Rote, wife of the late Cleon “Sonny” Rote, New Providence, PA.

In a chance encounter, in 1958, she fell in love at first sight and after 10 days of courtship, married John J. Sagerer whom she was wed to for 41 years until his death in 1999.

Surviving are three daughters, Johanna “Johnny” Davis and her husband Glenn Davis, Lancaster, PA; Annamarie Schickel and her husband John H. Schickel, Willow Street, PA; Linda Lee Newsome and her husband Kenny Newsome, Quarryville, PA. Five grandchildren, Bay Davis, Lancaster, her “Baby” who she lived with and adored; Zane and Starr Schickel, Willow Street; Jennifer Kouros, Ephrata and Mary Lisa Tegowski, NC, plus six great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life she danced the jitterbug, made eyes at the men for free samples at the candy factory, twisted pretzels, worked at Hubley, tended bar, loved the beach, worshipped the sun, shopped too much and spoke her mind but mostly she made us laugh!

So mom, we followed your wishes but we also followed our hearts. To let friends and family know of your passing, your request of no formal service, a private interment and in lieu of flowers because in a week they’ll be dead, to make memorial contributions to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, 1054 New Holland Ave, Lancaster, PA, 17601.
