Helen E. Wesley, age 101, formerly of Lancaster, died at Cornwall Manor Nursing Home on March 10, 2010, from natural causes.
She was born in Lancaster on September 22, 1908, to the late Jacob B. and Elizabeth (Buckwalter) Bowman. Helen was the wife of the late Howard C. Wesley who died in 1979.
Helen was a legal secretary for many years, retiring in 1963. She was a member of Pearl Street United Methodist Church in Lancaster where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the Auxiliary to The Conestoga View, and enjoyed volunteer work at the Lancaster County Blind Association and visiting shut-ins from the church.
Surviving are two sons, R. James Benner of Lansing, Michigan, and Thomas B. Benner of Cornwall, Pa., six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ira Thomas Bowman, and a sister, Mary Kathryn Stumpf.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 East Orange Street, on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 11 AM with the Rev. Debra Davis officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:30 to 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be strictly private in Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster. Please omit flowers.
