Henry Breckbill Leaman had his deep desire of going to be with Jesus fulfilled on September 15, 2015, ten days before his and Marian Garber Leaman’s 68
th
wedding anniversary. He was born December 7, 1924, to Harry and Anna Leaman, graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School, spent 1½ years in Civilian Public Service and lived in Lampeter Township as a successful dairy farmer for thirty three years, then served Mennonite Home as Maintenance Supervisor. He and Marian established Mennonite & Brethren Marriage and Engaged Encounter in South Central PA. They moved to Landis Homes Retirement Community in 2011.
He was a member of Willow Street Mennonite Church, serving there throughout the years as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, treasurer, trustee. While serving there and at Mennonite Home he was known to be able to “fix anything.” For nearly 30 years, he and Marian volunteered to barbecue hamburgers and hot dogs at Mennonite Home so that every resident could enjoy an outdoor picnic. In tune with his “giving personality” Henry also served everyone at Mennonite Home homemade ice cream on his birthday.
He is survived by his wife, Marian, four daughters, Sara, Rachel (Loren Johns), Lois (John Jantzi), Carol (Dave Witmer), three sons, Jim (Sheryl Huebert), Ken (Judy Myers), Ron (Joyce Horst), 18 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Willow Street Mennonite Church, 399 E. Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, PA on Saturday, September 26 at 10:00A.M. Friends may greet the family on Friday evening, September 25, from 6-8:00 PM at the West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E.
