Herman Hayes “Red” Leidich

Herman Hayes “Red” Leidich, 91, formerly of Willow Street, a resident of Woodcrest Villa, died Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Mennonite Home.

He was married 66 years to Ruth Kipps Leidich.  Born in Tremont, Schuykill County, PA he was the son of the late Ruth E. Bernd Leidich.

Herman retired from RCA in 1980 where he had been employed for 34 years.  He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  Herman was a member and past president of the Lafayette Lions Club where he received the award of Lion of the Year for 1985-1986.  He was also was a Melvin Jones Fellow which is an award for dedicated humanitarian services presented by the Lions Club International Foundation.  Herman enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Fair Play Hunting Club in Perry County.  His other interests included gardening and pinochle.

Surviving besides his wife is a son, A. Keath husband of Doris Leidich of Conestoga; two daughters, Sulynne Konopka of Hughesville, MD and Denise wife of Tony Mann of Germantown, MD.  Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in the Eagle Wing Commons at Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA with Chaplain Miriam Cruz officiating.  Friends may call at Woodcrest Villa on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.  Interment in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Leidich’s memory may be made to the Benevolent Fund at the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA  17601.
