Hillane A. Sempier

Hillane Adele (Hahn) Sempier, 70, of Manheim peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017 while being covered in prayer and love by her husband and three children who were at her side. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late J. Hiller Hahn and Lucille Platt Hahn. She graduated from Bloomfield High School, NJ and Berkley College, NJ. Her professional career was in human resources and banking. She enjoyed both because she could help others. Hillane’s greatest passion was taking care of family and friends. This included taking time off from her career to raise her children. Hillane also cared for her parents and aunt in their final years. Her husband lovingly took on this role for Hillane during a courageous battle with a rare neurological disease (Multiple System Atrophy).

The magnitude and depth of Hillane’s love and kindness was evident to everyone she met. She lived a life that was selfless, putting others’ needs before her own. No one was a stranger to Hillane, as she made friends everywhere she went. She had a heart that overflowed with joy, which she spread to everyone she encountered. Hillane shared her love for others through her infectious smile, eternal optimism, and bubbly personality.

She was blessed with many opportunities to travel internationally with her husband. After retiring she also enjoyed spending the winter season with a community of friends in Venice, Florida. Hillane was involved in service-based activities throughout her life. Most recently, she devoted time to Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O. chapter BA). Member, and former deacon, of First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, PA and affiliate member at Venice Presbyterian Church, FL, her faith was unwavering throughout the peaks and valleys of life. Because of her faith, she was at peace in recent years and reassured others that she was prepared to be with the Lord.

Her spirit is carried on by her husband of 44 years, Leonard R. Sempier, three children: Stephen H. Sempier (Tracie) of Ocean Springs, MS; Danielle S. Reist (David) of Lititz, PA; Scott L. Sempier (Sarah) of Moorestown, N.J.; seven grandchildren: Savannah, Christopher, Benjamin, Samuel, Carly, Abigail, and Carrig; and brother, Steele Hahn of Middlebury Center, PA.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 2 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 140 East Orange St., Lancaster, PA. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 1 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hillane’s memory may be made to Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins Office of Medical Annual Giving, P.O. Box 17045, Baltimore, MD 21297, which provided her with exceptional care and support.
