Howard Lloyd (Bud) Hofer, age 83, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009 with his family at his side.
Born in Wilmington, DE, Bud was the son of the late, Mr. & Mrs. Andrew D. Hofer. He graduated from Wilmington High School in 1943.
Bud served in the Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Hermitage. Later, he started his career at the Pusey and Jones Shipbuilding Company followed by 34 years working in the Engineering Department at Atlas Powder / Atlas Chemical / ICI Americas. While working, Bud also completed three years of Civil Engineering at the University of Delaware. Bud was devoted to his family and was an accomplished photographer. He enjoyed traveling around the country with his wife.
Mr. Hofer is survived by his son, David A., and his wife, Julia of Newark, DE; a granddaughter, Andrea S. Danby and her husband F. Scott; a great grandson, Franklin Scott Danby, Jr., all of Cochranville, PA; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years S. Virginia Hofer, a son, John H., a daughter, Susan, and a brother, Gordon Hofer.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March, 10, 2009 at 4pm, at Concord Presbyterian Church, 1800 Fairfax Blvd. Wilmington, DE 19803, where friends may call after 3pm. Interment will follow in Lombardy Cemetery.
