Howard F. Herr
Howard F. Herr, 89, formerly of Lancaster, PA and Oviedo, FL, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Luther Haven in Oviedo, FL. He was the loving husband of the late Claire Swarr Herr, who preceded him in death in 2013. They resided in Oviedo, FL for the past 24 years and traveled back to Lancaster every summer. Howard was born in Lancaster and was the son of the late B. Franklin Herr and Julia (Elmer) Herr.
Howard graduated from Manheim Township High School and dedicated his life to his family and career as a financial advisor. He spent 3 years in the Navy as a Lieutenant JG. He is alumni of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and honorary alumni of University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. In his career he attained the level of CPA. He worked for Penn Stone, New Holland Machine Co, Schick Electric, School District of Lancaster, and was Controller for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Howard retired at the age of 60 years and traveled the world with Claire. His trips took him for a ride. His feet touched down on all 7 continents of the world.
He is survived by his two brothers, Franklin and Ronald Herr of Port Charlotte, FL; a daughter Sandra Morris and her husband James of Farmville, NC and a daughter Susan Wells and her husband Roger of Denton, TX. Howard and Claire are grandparents to Jeffery and Justin Wells of the Dallas Fort Worth area. They are great grandparents to six great-grandchildren.
Howard was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Lancaster, PA; Redeemer Lutheran Church of Orlando, FL and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Oviedo, FL.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602 at 2:00 PM with the Reverend James E. Morris (son-in-law) officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday also at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Howard and Claire’s memory can be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 517 N. Queen St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
