Ida M. Hoover, 91, a resident of Landis Homes Retirement Community, formerly of Mountville, died Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center.
She was the wife of the late Malvin E. Hoover who died in 1999. Born February 11, 1918 in Pequea Twp., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Fannie Mellinger Sangrey.
Mrs. Hoover was a member of the Mellinger Mennonite Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family.
Surviving are three sons, Kenneth S. Hoover of Elizabethtown, Donald L. husband of Suzanne Pries Hoover of Conestoga, and David A. husband of Judy Smoker Hoover of Washington Boro; 12 grandchildren, three foster grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, four foster great grandchildren and two foster great great grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Harnish of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Barbara A. Shenk Hoover, by a foster son, Irvin A. Swisher, Sr. who was the husband of Ruthie Swisher of Mountville, and by four brothers and two sisters.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Mellinger Mennonite Church, 1916 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA with Rev. Leon Oberholtzer, Rev. Joe Miller and Rev. Jason Kuniholm officiating. Friends may call at the West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and at Mellinger Mennonite Church on Friday morning from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Hoover’s memory may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to Mellinger Mennonite Church, 1916 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602.
