Jack A. Bidding P.E., 86, of Landisville died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born August 26, 1922 in Sunbury, Northumberland County, PA, he was the son of the late John W. and Anna E. Waters Bidding. His wife Audrey died in 2007. They were married for 56 years.

A graduate of Bucknell University, Mr. Bidding was a Lieutenant JG in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He and his family moved from Sunbury to Landisville in 1952. He was a Senior Power Engineer in the Lancaster Division of Pennsylvania Power and Light for 36 years and retired in 1983. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Landisville, where he participated in the choir and church council. Mr. Bidding, a Republican, had a passion for politics and started as a Judge of Elections in East Hempfield Township. He was an East Hempfield Township Supervisor and later became Chairman. He was a consultant for the Township after his retirement in 1994. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed spending time at the family summer cottage in Columbia County. Mr. Bidding was also a model train enthusiast and a Pennsylvania Railroad history buff.

Surviving are three sons, John E. Bidding, of Columbia, Charles W. Bidding, companion of Deb Graham, of Lancaster, and Scott A., husband of Barbara Huber Bidding, of Lancaster; a granddaughter, Jennifer C. Bidding and a great-grandson, Ethan Michael Falcon, both of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn W. Bidding, and by sisters, Ethel Bidding Coe and Anna Bidding.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 85 Brandt Blvd., Landisville, PA with the Rev. Robert L. Hoover, Jr. officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
