Jack Kiviat, born on March 24, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away at his home in Landisville, Pennsylvania, on December 16, 2024. He was 89 years old.
Jack grew up in Brooklyn and went on to attend Syracuse University on a football scholarship, allowing him to be the first in his family to attend college. A talented athlete, he played for the university’s football team for four years and proudly participated in the Cotton Bowl in 1957. Following his college years, Jack served his country with dedication as a member of the Army Reserves.
After his military service, Jack built a long and successful career in retail, retiring in 2005. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident throughout his professional life. Following his retirement, Jack and his wife Sheila relocated to the Lancaster area to be closer to family. With his gregarious personality, Jack quickly made friends in the community, volunteering as a football coach for the Red Rose Midget League, working at Manheim Auto Auction and being a regular at the gym until recently.
Jack was a devoted family man, always at the ready with a bit of advice and support. He is survived by his three children: Susan Kiviat, Karen Hancock, and Alan (Mary Neale) Kiviat; and two grandchildren, Kira Kiviat and Andrew Hancock. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sheila Kiviat, who passed away in December 2019.
While his achievements were numerous, Jack will be most remembered for the incredible love he shared with those closest to him and the warmth and humor he shared with all he met. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
