Jacob S. Ober, 90, of Conestoga, passed away peacefully on July 15 th , 2024 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community. He was the loving husband of the late Miriam M. Ober who preceded him in death in 2018. He was born in Lancaster to George and Mary Ober and raised by Ira and Pauline Buckwalter, Intercourse, PA.
Jake was a dairy farmer for 35 years, many of those years spent as the owner/operator of Locust Notch Dairy Farm. After farming, he worked at Hershey Equipment Company as a crew foreman and then in their parts department before retiring in 2012.
He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster where he served as a greeter and founded the GBC coffee station with his late wife, Mim, which has become a key gathering place for coffee, cookies, and fellowship on Sunday mornings.
In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, including several train trips across the country and into Canada as well as spending winters in Florida. He also took great pride in his gardening, collecting John Deere tractors/memorabilia, and most of all spending time with his adoring family.
He will be lovingly missed by his children and family: Bonnie, wife of Dale Mann of Mountville, Brenda, wife of Greg Schmalhofer of Lancaster, Dale Ober of Lancaster, companion Cindi Moses (her son Adam Tuwati) of Lancaster, Dean Ober, husband of Deb of Lancaster, nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Jared (Ashley) Miller, Kyle (Katie) Miller, Alex (Amy) Miller, Emily Schmalhofer, Adam (Samantha) Schmalhofer, Holly (Tim) Deubler, Brittany Ober, Justin (Kirstyn) Ober and Brooke Ober. The great grandchildren are Cole Miller, Ann Miller, Ella Miller, Owen Miller, Charlotte Miller, Maria Schmalhofer, Paxson Deubler, Judah Deubler, Rylie Deubler, Ezra Ober and Asa Ober.
Jake is also survived by brothers Wayne Ober, Robert Fulkrod, John (Miriam) Buckwalter, Henry (Millie) Buckwalter and a sister Marian Buckwalter.
Per Jake’s wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family with burial in River Corner Mennonite Cemetery.
