James E. Herr, 77, of Luther Acres, Lititz, passed away peacefully at Moravian Manor on Saturday, October 16, 2010.  Born in Lancaster, he was the son of B. Frank Herr and Ruth (Zimmerman) Herr. Jim was the loving husband of Kathryn (Zug) Herr with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage in August. He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1950 and served in the Army during the Korean War. Jim graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. He began his career as an engineer at Armstrong Cork Company, now Armstrong World Industries, and was later employed with Kerr Glass in Research and Development.  He was granted 22 U.S. and foreign patents. Jim is survived by his daughter, Julie Wehr, wife of Mark Wehr of Slatington, PA and a son, David, husband of Cheryl (Rain) Herr of McMinnville, OR. There are 4 grandchildren: Matthew and Alan Wehr (husband of Amanda), both of  Allentown,

PA, and Lauren Herr Mitchell (wife of Isaac) and Lindsey Herr of Oregon. He is survived by a sister, H. Louise Nichols and a brother, Donald Richard Herr. He was preceded in death by a brother, J. Robert Herr, and a halfbrother, Frank Herr.  James was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of East Petersburg and was past president of the church council. He was also the president of East Petersburg Lions Club and the East Petersburg Hiking Club.  A funeral service will be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of East Petersburg on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 11:00 AM with visitation an hour prior to the service. A private interment will be at the convenience of the family.
