James F. Mcgee

James F. McGee, 73, died peacefully at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mt. Joy on Monday, April 25, 2011. He was born in Mt. Carmel, PA to the late John and Irene McGee.

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara,  and his cat Oreo; his daughter, Tammie McGee and two grand cats, Tom & Jerry;  two  brothers Tom and his wife Rosemary McGee; and  Vince and his wife Shirley McGee; his sister Lorraine Myers; and his sister-in-law, Roberta Myers, along with  several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers William, Michael and Joseph, and a nephew “Butch” Ploppert.

He retired from Asplundh Tree Expert Company after 37 years of service. In his retirement he delivered fire trucks for Glenn Usdin and freight for Phoenix Courier.

As a member of the Wheatland Fire Department, he served as firefighter, chief engineer, and chairman of the new truck committee. After Wheatland merged to become Lancaster Township Fire Department, he drove the ladder truck, served as assistant engineer, and driver trainer.  He loved the fire department dearly.

Jim enjoyed many hobbies through his life. He owned horses, rode motorcycles around the U.S. with his wife, and made many nice woodworking pieces for family and friends. Life was never dull with Jim McGee around.

A memorial service will be held at Hamilton Park United Church of Christ,   1210 Maple Ave., Lancaster, PA on Saturday, May 7th at 11:00 A.M.  Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.  The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service.
