Jane I. Bender

Jane I. Bender, 89, formerly of Ruby St., Lancaster, died peacefully with her family by her side on March 3, 2010 at The Bridges of Bent Creek in Mechanicsburg.

She was the wife of the late Mahlon H. Bender who died in 2005. Born August 26, 1920 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Amanda Brenneman Steffy.

Mrs. Bender retired from Sears where she had been employed as a sales clerk for 25 years. She was a member of the first graduating class of J. P. McCaskey High School. Jane was a member of the Pearl Street United Methodist Church and the Sears Retiree Group. She enjoyed making wool rugs and spending time with her family.

She will be sorely missed by her daughter, Suzanne wife of William Hilborn of Mechanicsburg; two grandchildren, Kellie wife of Bill Anderson and Christine wife of Mike Newman; four great grandchildren, Cole and Riley Anderson and Lily and Mia Newman. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Steffy, and by a sister, Dorothy Peters.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Richard A. Sheetz Funeral Home, 2024 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA with Pastor Rick Martin officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Pearl Street United Methodist Church, 133 Pearl St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
