Jane M. Nightengale, 84, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 26, 2013 after a long illness. Born 1929 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Louis E. and Helen F. Nightengale. She was the wife of the late John S. Fabre who died in 1991 and was preceded in death by her brother, James M. Nightengale.
Jane was a graduate of St. Anne’s School, the Sacred Heart Academy and received her training as a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years until her retirement at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she enjoyed working with her patients and colleagues. She had many lifelong interests, collecting antiques, reading and caring for her cats. She was passionate about cats and enjoyed reading and learning about domestic cats as well as wild cats. Jane enjoyed an African safari earlier in life to observe the big cats in the wild. She loved to travel and did so extensively throughout Europe, Africa, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands during her lifetime. She cherished time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by a nephew, three nieces and cousins.
A Christian Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA. Interment in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Lancaster County SPCA, 599 Chesapeake Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
