Janet M. Chillas Smith, 86, a longtime resident of Lancaster, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in Alpharetta, GA. She had moved to Georgia a few years ago to be closer to her one son and his family.
She was the wife of the late J. David Smith, Sr. who died in 2008. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Loretta Miller Chillas.
Janet was last employed by Buyright Supermarket where she had been employed in the office for 15 years. Prior to that she had been employed by Thriftway and Armstrong Contracting and Supply.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster for 67 years. Her interests included crafts, gardening and music. Janet was a member of the A.A.R.P. Chapter #530 Chorus and the Millersville Lioness Club.
Surviving are two sons, J. David, Jr. husband of Cynthia Evans Smith of Duluth, GA, and Scott E. husband of Eileen Horton of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Corvey of Kittery, ME.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at Conestoga Memorial Park, 95 Second Lock Road, Lancaster, PA. A visitation will be held on Monday at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:15 A.M.
