Janet S. Wiley, 85, of Lancaster, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 at home, surrounded by her devoted family.
Born in Drumore, she was the wife of David E. Wiley and the daughter of the late Horace Rea and Margaret Scott Smith.
Janet found her greatest joy in life as a loving wife and mother. She and David celebrated 58 years of marriage on December 10.
Janet graduated from Quarryville High School and attended Millersville University where she was an honor student. She worked at Armstrong Cork Company before settling down to raise a family.
As a youth, Janet was very involved at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church and was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church as an adult. She was a member of Highland’s Senior Choir for over 30 years. As a member of the choir, she performed in Carnegie Hall four times. She also sang at the National Cathedral and travelled with the choir to perform in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Scotland, England, and Switzerland. She served as President of Highland Presbyterian Church Nursery School.
Janet was an avid tennis player and golfer and liked a game of bridge with friends, mostly for the conversation and laughter. She loved to read and a crossword puzzle was part of her daily routine. She did beautiful crewel work and kept her family warm with numerous lovely knitted creations.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Susan Lee, Ann Louise, and Sandra Kay. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lib Denlinger and Kay Powl, and one brother, Bob Smith.
A special thank you to her caregivers – Carol, Teresa, Ann, Linda, Ruthie, Rachel and Jennifer – who made her last years so much more comfortable. There are no words.
