Jean E. Frantz, 86, died on June 9, 2016 in Mechanicsburg, Pa. at the home of her sister, where she had resided for the past year.

A graduate of Myerstown High School, where she graduated as valedictorian, Jean went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in music education from Lebanon Valley College and a Master’s Degree in organ from Westminster Choir College.

After receiving her Master’s, Jean served as Minister of Music at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Boyertown, PA; First Presbyterian Church, Olean, NY; Broadway Methodist Church, Orlando FL; and Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, MD.  She also taught organ and piano.

Jean taught fourth grade for 24 years at Ann Letort Elementary School in the Penn Manor School Distriict where she also played piano for numerous music programs.  Jean served as organist at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, First United Methodist Church, Church of the Apostles, United Church of Christ; and several churches in the Lancaster, PA area.

Jean was a longtime resident of Homestead Village in Lancaster, PA, where she directed and accompanied the Homestead Chorus and played organ and piano in numerous programs and services.  A devout lover of music, Jean served as a member of the Lancaster Community Concert Board and regularly attended several Philadelphia Phillies games.

Born in Reading PA in 1929, Jean was the daughter of the late Lester P. Frantz and C. Esther Edwards Frantz.  Jean is survived by her sister, Shirley Frantz Zellner, Shirley’s husband, Robert Oron Zellner, three nieces and seven great nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Church of the Apostles, 1850 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Frantz Music Scholarship Fund of The Church of the Apostles, Hospice and Community Care or The American Cancer Society.
