Jennie T. Aston

Jennie T. (Evans) Aston, 88, of Lancaster, PA, peacefully joined her Savior in Heaven on Sunday, August 16, 2015.  She had been a resident of Masonic Villages of Elizabethtown since April, 2011.  Jennie was the loving wife of the late Daniel J. Aston who died in June, 1996 after 48 years of marriage.

Jennie was a “coal miner’s daughter”, born in Gilberton (Schuylkill County,) PA, the daughter of the late John and Hattie Terrill Evans.  She was one of 9 children.  All of her siblings preceded her in death and she missed them very much.  She loved her little home town and spoke often of her life growing up there and her fondness for the United Methodist Church that she grew up in.  It was an adjustment moving to the “big city” of Lancaster in the mid 1940’s.  It was there that she met Daniel “Jack” Aston and they married in September, 1947.  She and Jack lived in the “Cabbage Hill” area of Lancaster City most of their lives.  They enjoyed many activities including bowling, camping, boating, singing, dancing and word search puzzles.  They were wonderful dancers and could be heard regularly singing and harmonizing together in the house or during drives in the car.

Jennie worked for a number of local employers, including Valorb’s Jeweler’s, Schick and Penn Dairies.  She retired in 1987 from the former R.C.A. company.  She enjoyed being in a Seniors Bowling League and a league with the R.C.A. Retirees.  In addition, she was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross and the Food Bank.

Jennie had a very strong faith passed down from her mother, and she loved to read the Psalms and sing hymns.  She knew the words to just about every hymn imaginable and was still singing up til a few days before she passed away.  She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Lancaster.

Jennie is survived by her daughter: Pamela E., wife of Carlton M. (Jim) DeBord, Jr. of Lancaster; grandchildren: Lisa (Lombardo) Whitacre of Lancaster and Danielle Witwer (Jack) of Lancaster , Michele DeBord, James DeBord (Anne Louise), and her great-grandchildren whom she adored and was actively involved with their entire lives: Sydney, Luke, Connor, Bennett, Andrew, Meredith and Matthew,  and a large contingency of extended family whom she loved as well.

Jennie will be fondly remembered by her family for her strong faith, her wonderful cooking and her beautiful voice.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jennie’s funeral service on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at the DeBord Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA.  Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Interment will be in Riverview Burial Park immediately following the service.
