Joan A. Herring
Joan Audrey Herring, 78, of Lancaster, PA passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, PA. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Herring who died in 1999.
Born in Lehighton, PA she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Dorothea Folk Schweitzer.
Joan was a graduate of Kutztown, received her Master’s degree from Millersville, and was a Manheim Twp. elementary school teacher for 31 years.
She was a very active member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved music, crafts, traveling, including trips to the shore.
Joan is survived by two daughters, Dawn Herring of Lancaster, and Robin Herring of Windsor, PA; a grandson, Michael Herring of Windsor, PA, and two brothers, Carl, husband of MaryAnn Schweitzer of Lehighton, PA and Lee Schweitzer of Penn Run, PA.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in St. Matthew Church, 700 Pleasure Road, Lancaster, PA on Monday, July 14th at 2:00 P.M. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service.
Private interment will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Matthew Church at the address above or the American Cancer Society.
