Joan ‘Joanie’ Anderson passed away surrounded by her 6 living children, along with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joan was ‘the bride’ of Rev. John ‘Revie’ Anderson for 57 years prior to his death in 2011. Her life was truly a life well lived. She was the daughter of the late James and Voneida Fields Anderson.
She was born October 2, 1932 in Glenolden, PA. Joan married Wes on May 23

, 1953 and moved to Chicago, IL. While ‘Revie’ was in seminary Joan worked as a secretary at a Metropolitan Life insurance company. They moved to Montoursville, PA and then to Lancaster, PA where Joan was the consummate ‘pastors wife’ and a home maker for six active children. She also worked for a period of time at the Manor House apartments as a rental agent. After ‘Revie’s’ retirement she was kept busy with school events, sporting events, dance recitals and a host of different church activities. Joan enjoyed cooking and particularly baking. She was famous for her coffee cake. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her life revolved around her children.
Joan is survived by 7 children. Susan Jones, wife of Larry Jones, Dr. Christine Barnes, wife of Dr. Kevin Barnes (Mechanicsburg), Bruce W. Anderson (deceased), Mark Anderson, Gail Murray, wife of Jay Murray, David Anderson, husband of Lisa and Rodney Anderson husband of Rhonda. Joan and Wes are the proud grandparents of 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and anxiously anticipating a new arrival in October.
There will be a viewing on Thursday evening from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Faith United Church of Christ at 1204 Wabank Road, Lancaster. The memorial service with be held on Friday, September 4th at 11:00 AM at Faith United Church of Christ officiated by Rev. Ted Mingle and Rev. John Rieker. There will be visitation prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joanie’s memory may be sent to Faith United Church of Christ, Lancaster.
