Joanne D. Edgerley, 83, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Homestead Village. She was the daughter of the late Levi R. and Bertha (Drybread) Edgerley.
Born in Lancaster, she studied piano at the Wolf Institute of Lancaster under the late Dr. and Mrs. Wolf and later served on the Board of Directors for 38 years.
She was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and Millersville University. She began her teaching career at George Ross Elementary School, where she stayed until her retirement 39 years later.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Lancaster where she served on various committees as well as being active in the Reading Room and as a Sunday school teacher.
Joanne enjoyed playing the piano, playing cards and doing puzzles, and traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe.
She was a former member of the Iris Club, Retired Teachers Association and BPW of Lancaster.
She is survived by a sister, Patricia D. Sourbeer; two nieces, Julia McMichael (wife of Stephen) and Joyce Ellison (wife of Ronald); two great nephews, and two great nieces.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St. Lancaster, PA 17602 on Tuesday, November, 19, 2013 at 11:00 am. A viewing will take place Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will be in the Lancaster Cemetery.
