Joe Binkley Forney passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Mary Scheller Forney; son, Michael, husband of Barbara Forney; daughter, Lynn Forney Kurjiaka and grandchildren, Kari Kurjiaka, Paige Forney and Kristin Kurjiaka.
Joe was born in East Petersburg on August 17, 1933 to the late Charles and Gertrude Binkley Forney. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Milton Forney, Elizabeth (Betty) Forney Saylor, Charles Forney and Joan Forney Adams. Joe grew up playing baseball and basketball in high school. He grew up attending Hempfield Church of the Brethren.
After graduating from Hempfield High School, Joe went to DeVry University in Chicago for a year before joining the Army, where he studied microwave technology. After his service, he attended Elizabethtown College and transferred to University of Arizona where he graduated with a business degree. After college he moved back to Lancaster County and worked as a business analysist at Dun and Bradstreet where he retired after 25 years. He later worked as a commercial real estate agent for Swatski Realty and a Way delivery driver.
Joe enjoyed reading about history, attending Bible studies at Hempfield United Methodist Church, where he was a member, watching baseball games, walking his dog, woodworking, making gifts for his granddaughters and spending time with his family.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Lancaster General Hospital and Hospice and Community Care. A celebration of life service will be held at Hempfield United Methodist Church, 3050 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603 on Thursday, September 13

at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends will be received from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
