John H. Luttenberger, Jr.

John H. Luttenberger, Jr., 88, died on Monday, September 28, 2015 at Calvary Fellowship Home. An accountant, he worked for the former Penn Dairies for twenty years, Town and Country Leasing, St. Joseph Hospital in Reading and Conestoga View as the Chief Financial Officer.

He was a 1945 graduate of Manheim Township High School and a 1951 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College. He served with the United States Army in Italy at the end of World War II.

A lifelong member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, he served several terms on Congregation Council and as President of Council, Chairperson of Stewardship Committee, Finance Committee, a member of the church choir, church school teacher, lay assistant and congregation Treasurer for many years.

He was a volunteer at the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in Strasburg and participated in assisting with Thomas the Tank Train the weeks it came to Strasburg. Trains and travel were his hobbies and he traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Panama Canal with his family and friends.

He was formerly active in the National Accountants Association, Boys and Girls Club of Lancaster, treasurer of the Sixth Ward Civic Association, taught swimming lessons to handicapped children and was the Treasurer of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra for ten years.

John is survived by a son, John H. Luttenberger, III, of Philadelphia; three step-daughters, Holly Michele, wife of Donald R. Jenkins, of Cincinnati, OH, Stephanie Lynn, wife of Charles E. Lower, Jr., of Lancaster, and Loree Jean, wife of R. Sean Powell, of Dutton, VA; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Janice L. Carpenter, of Lancaster.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carole Coble Luttenberger, and a daughter, Janice Marie Luttenberger.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial service at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 750 Greenfield Rd., Lancaster, PA 17602 on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Mark L. Russell officiating. Friends may greet the family from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will follow the service in the Memorial garden at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at the address above.
