John Harlan Moore, 85, a resident of Manheim Township, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Homestead Village. He had been married almost 60 years to the late Jean McGowan Moore who died in 2007.
Born in Lexington, KY, he was one of four sons of Anne and Lee Moore. Three brothers preceded him in death, all having served in the Military Forces. John served in the United States Merchant Marine for two and a half years and saw action in the North and South Atlantic theaters as well as the Mediterranean theater. He was honorably discharged from the United States Coast Guard in January of 1945.

John served as Plant Industrial Engineer, Production Superintendent and then as Divisional Chief Industrial Engineer. He finished his career as Director of Quality Assurance for the company in 1986. His desire to improve the company’s quality was marked by his insistence that a philosophy of “Do It Right The First Time” was adopted as the watch word for all company personnel.
He enjoyed golf, bridge, travel and spending the winters in Palm Desert, CA with his wife Jean for over 25 years.
